A bill to form a community services district at East Garrison at Fort Ord has been signed into law by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The district will allow bond financing to pay for infrastructure to develop East Garrison, said Ron Lundquist, Monterey County public works director.

The proposed East Garrison project calls for 1,400 homes, a village center and an arts district. The bill by state Sen. Abel Maldonado, R-Santa Maria, faced no opposition. Legislation was needed because community service districts typically are created by residents’ votes, but there are no residents yet at East Garrison.
